The inspiration source for MFC Stencil Borders One are stencil patterns from the circa early 1900’s Blue Label Brand Stencil booklet. The original designs were produced as single color stencils designs, mostly as trims (without corners to complete them as borders). We've not only added corners to make them fully functional borders, but we've also created two-color layerable chromatic styles, for more fun and diversity. For the first time, this decorative border collection is available digitally.

You can start with a new document or work on a new layer within an existing document. Select MFC Stencil Borders One from the font menu. (Some users may have font previewing enabled in the font menu which will cause the font name to appear as border elements, disable this option in order to choose the name)

Make certain that the point size of the font is the same as the leading being applied to the font so the borders will meet up properly. While we’ve adjusted this within the font, your program may override these settings. For instance a 12 point font should have 12 points of leading. The inspiration source for Buttergin Monogram is a highly ornate lettering style from the book, “Letters and Lettering” by Carlyle & Oring. This fantastic lettering style was originally depicted only with Capitals and Numbers, which we’ve lovingly recreated to include smallcaps for the purpose of Monogramming, Signs, and Headlines. From the original style that had a drop shadow and line shading, we extrapolated solid and a clean outline with drop shadow styles for more versatility of use.

The source of inspiration for MFC Elmstead Monogram is an initials set from the book “Monograms and Alphabets for Combination” by Dollfus, Mieg & Cie, first published in the 1880’s.

We’ve taken the original Cameo styled initials that had a somewhat clumsy weighting and rebuilt the design using the capitals from Marcellus Pro by our sister foundry, Stiggy & Sands. We’ve extended the family by including both a Cameo and Non-Cameo version of the Initials, as well as Chromatic versions that can be layered to colorize the designs.

But we couldn't leave it as just an initial typestyle, so we took it a another step, and created Split Monogram Initials with bar splits & extensions for personalization, with the same chromatic set of layers as the full initials version. For filling in the split, we've created a custom limited version of Marcellus Pro, called MFC Elmstead TinyCap, that contains small caps, numerals, and basic punctuation - scaled down and lined up to layer with the MFC Elmstead Split group of fonts.
